A suspect is in custody following a savage attack in Vancouver.

Around 3 p.m. on Sunday (August 15), a 46-year-old man had his throat slashed from behind, according to Vancouver police.

It occurred near Quebec Street and East 10th Avenue in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood.

“This attack appears to have been random, and it caused serious injuries to the victim,” Sgt. Steve Addison said in a news release. “We believe there were a number of people in the area when it happened, and we’re asking anyone with information to contact VPD investigators.”

The victim, who lives in Vancouver, has "significant cuts to his neck and throat", according to police. He received stitches and has been released from hospital.

“We’re grateful to everyone who came to the aid of the victim and called 9-1-1 immediately," Addison said. "They provided comfort to the injured victim and allowed VPD officers to arrest the suspect while he was still in the area."

Jesse Attig, 30, is facing a charge of attempted murder.
