A 12-year-old girl on a bicycle refused stranger's invitation to look inside his vehicle in an upscale Vancouver neighbourhood.

Instead, she rode home and told her mother.

Now, Vancouver police say they're investigating an attempted child luring in West Point Grey.

The incident occurred near the corner of West 6th Avenue between Trimble and Sasamat streets around 3:30 p.m. on May 6.

The suspect has been described as a white male between 20 and 30 years old. He was in a light grey or silver larger vehicle, possibly a van or an SUV, with a roof rack.

Anyone with information or video footage is being asked to contact Vancouver Police detectives at 604-717-0602 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

      Update

On May 9, Vancouver police said they have identified a "possible suspect".

"Investigators do not believe the public's safety is at risk," the VPD stated in a news release.
