A woman who chose to ignore quarantine requirements after arriving in Canada is facing fines totalling almost $7,000.

The West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD) stated today (March 10) that the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) contacted the WVPD at 10:25 p.m. on March 4 that it had reason to believe that a woman, who had entered Canada at the Pacific Highway Border Crossing that day, had breached her quarantine requirements.

The PHAC informed police that the woman had not provided an adequate negative COVID-19 test upon arrival, and also visited someone at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver shortly thereafter.

At 1:20 p.m. on March 5, when police went to the residence in West Vancouver that the woman provided as her quarantine address, an officer found the woman returning from a walk.

The woman claimed to be exempt from quarantine requirements, but she wasn’t able to provide any official documents to prove this claim. 

Police issued her two violation tickets of $3,450 each: one for the allegations that the PHAC made, and one for breaching quarantine that the officer observed.

The two fines totalled $6,900 and the woman was directed back into quarantine.
