A suspect connected to a murder that occurred in Winnipeg last year was located and arrested in Vancouver this week after a search that lasted for several months.

Surrey RCMP stated on December 20 that a search for Dyllan Petrin began last year when his court-ordered electronic-monitoring ankle bracelet was cut off on May 28, 2020, while he was out on bail.

Petrin had been arrested in July 2019 during an investigation into a kidnapping and assault that month, and he had been held in custody until he was released under court-ordered conditions on February 2020.

On June 2, a B.C.–wide warrant was issued for the arrest of the then-19-year-old Petrin, including a new charge of breaching court-ordered conditions.

Then on July 21, 31-year-old Cody Alexander Sleigh, originally from B.C., was shot in Winnipeg, and he later died on July 23.

The Winnipeg Police Service and Williams Lake RCMP worked together to arrest 32-year-old Kleon Cassidy Pop in Williams Lake, B.C., and he was returned to Winnipeg where he was charged with murder.

As a Canada-wide warrant was issued for Petrin, who became a second suspect in the murder case, Surrey RCMP and the Winnipeg Police Service teamed up to locate him.

Surrey investigators determined that Petrin was hiding in Vancouver, and he was subsequently arrested, with assistance from the Vancouver Police Department and the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team, on outstanding warrants on January 19.

Anyone with further information about this case is asked to contact Surrey RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
