Today, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced a breakthrough after human remains were found last week in a Burnaby park.

Carlo Tobias, 21, and a 15-year-old have each been charged with first-degree murder and indignity to a dead human body.

It came in the death of 49-year-old Maricel Cecilia Loreto. Her burned body was found on March 18 in Greentree Village Park near Garden Grove Drive.

Sgt. Frank Jang is prohibited from disclosing the identity of the 15-year-old under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

He emphasized that this case is not related to gangs or drugs, nor do police believe it was a random event.

Police suspect that Loreto was killed in her home and the body taken to the park.

According to Jang, all three of the people involved knew each other.

      Update

Loreto's brother Armand posted a video featuring photographs of her, set to "Hallulujah".

He described her in this way: "A mom who never ceases to care and provide for her family. A friend who will take care of you and won't bother you with her troubles. A very caring and loving sister. She will be dearly missed."

Maricel Loreto Perez's brother Armand posted this loving memory of her on YouTube.
