From overcoming practical limitations to the creation of new worlds, combining lectures and hands on training, this workshop will take you through the intuitive and methodical processes of Green Screen visual effects.

Although most visual effects work is completed during post-production, it must be carefully planned and choreographed in pre-production and production, before empowering filmmakers to address the most basic and powerful visual effect: creating and the use of mattes with a green screen.

The workshop will be intensive concept training, it’ll be about how the technologies fit together. High to low budget. Using Adobe After Effects, but not software-led, since they all use the same principles. This broad and intensive approach is perfect for-

Over the course of two sessions, the first covering practical shooting with the support of Naim Sutherland (multi awarded Director of Photography), the second going over the digital tools used in post production with David Feuillatre (award-winning VFX Supervisor), with additional time for one to one consultation, participants will learn-

- choosing gear and lights required
- lighting setup; camera settings
- avoiding common mistakes, use of lighting probes, tracking markers
- shooting clean plates and elements
- introduction to compositing; concept of layers
- creating mattes; chroma keying
- garbage mattes and introduction to rotoscoping
- 2D tracking
- Practice with simple application: replacing background, inserting/replacing an image, crowd duplication, adding or removing props

Participants may want to use this workshop as a pre-production planning session for a project already in development.
