Come celebrate National Poetry Month in a reading with three local poets: Sheila Rosen, Diane L. Tucker, and Rian J. Llloyd.
Sheila Rosen is a Burnaby poet whose book Silence, the Breaking of It was published in 2014.This vibrant poetic work explores Rosen's childhood among the interned Japanese in small town BC, young love and loss, and a vision of the larger world that is both spiritual and deeply human.
Diane L. Tucker was born and raised in Vancouver, and now lives in Burnaby. After earning her B.F.A. in Creative Writing at UBC, she worked as a Burnaby library clerk, raised her two children, and continued writing poetry, as well as a novel and a play. Her first book of poems, God on His Haunches, was shortlisted for the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award. Her most recent book of poems, Bonsai Love, speaks eloquently of the sensual delicacies of love. Her poems have appeared in numerous anthologies and in more than sixty journals in Canada and abroad.
Rian J. Lloyd is a young Vancouver poet and NaNoWriMo novelist, whose reading was enthusiastically received at McGill Library's first Writers' Open Mic in December 2015. Their dynamically-performed slam poetry explores themes of personal identity and relationship with insight and wry humour. They are currently working on A Year Deconstructed: Poetry for New Adults, Adults, and Adolescents - a poem a day for each of the 366 days in 2016, typed with a typewriter on the guts of a deconstructed agenda.
Signed copies of the poets' books will be available for sale (cash only). Light refreshments will be served. Recommended for ages 14 through seniors; everyone is welcome.
