Stranger Books: JackPine Press Launches Two Originals

JackPine Press is pleased to announce the release of two new handmade poetry chapbooks by British Columbia authors and book artists, Saturday, November 26th at Café Deux Soleils, 2096 Commercial Drive, Vancouver, B.C.

These chapbooks are the opposite of mass market paperbacks. They are short selections of poetry bound with materials you don’t see very often, stitched together by hand in a unique way.

Pioneer 10, I Hear You by Donna Kane, kit fast, and mary mottishaw is inspired by the 1972 Pioneer 10 probe – an artifact of humankind that will probably travel on long after the Earth has been burned up by the sun. Kane’s meditation considers “What went up/stayed up, became the first earthly thing/with mass set to outlast the flutter board,/the pickle jar, the fear of death/and all our diminishing dramas.” Illustrated with the probe’s plaque drawings meant to communicate to extraterrestrials, the book is shielded with a Space Brand Emergency Blanket, so that it may always stay warm.

Flip-flops Faces and Unexpurgated Lives! by Kevin Spenst and Owen Plummer is an illustrated a flip book that playfully follows its protagonist from one psychedelic, reconfigured page to the next. Plummer illustrates the work with his trademark zine-style drawings.
