The Sidekick Players presents Norm Foster's "Jenny's House of Joy"

The Sidekick Players Club is pleased to present audience favourite encore comedy, Norm Foster's "Jenny's House of Joy". Directed by Carroll Lefebvre and starring Sidekick favourites, Lisa Gach (Natalie), Emile Greene (Jenny), Carol Jones (Carla), Kathryn Stewart (Frances) and Marcia Strang (Anita), this promises to deliver the Foster humour and seriousness throughout the play. Chosen by Sidekick audiences as the "Best Comedy" for an encore to celebrate the 20th Season. "Jenny" closes this milestone season with a bang!!

The story of four women - Jenny, Francis, Anita and Natalie - who work in a brothel in Baxter Springs, Kansas in the late 1800's. This is a serious play with the Foster comic bent! Funny, touching and ripe with comic surprises to keep you engaged to the very end. When the lights finally fade on this ingratiating little comedy, you'll feel like you really know the fiesty broads who bawl, brawl and genuinely break your heart. Foster hasn't written such engaging female characters in years.

Those who complain his comedies are too male-centred are in for a shock here! Though we do get to know Earl and Cecil and the other good old boys who visit Jenny Starbuck's Baxter Springs brothel, it's strictly through the eyes of the spirited women who walk them up that flight of stairs to three buck heaven. So when smart-mouthed old Frances, genteel little Anita and butter-wouldn't-melt-in-her-mouth Natalie let fly with the caustic remarks about the fly-by-night bedmates who keep them up nights, we certainly take notice. Along the way too,we learn a lot about these hard-workin' gals and the way they bond between stints in Jenny's upstairs rooms.

Jenny's House of Joy opens June 1 and runs until June 17. Evening performances at 8pm, Thursday, Friday and Saturday only. There are two matinees on Sunday, June 4 & 11 at 2pm.
