CALLING ALL CHILDREN YOUNG AND OLD to a very special day of fun and activity including DeSerres inspirational crafts, live music & entertainment and face painting.

Burnaby, BC – July 8th, 2017 – Visitors to the Deer Lake Gallery in Burnaby will once again be dazzled by an event noted for being fun for the entire family! The Summer Arts Festival is an all-day event on Saturday, July 8th from 10 am to 5 pm. We have booked the best in local performers and professional artists set against the beautiful Deer Lake Park. The Festival activities are surrounded by majestic trees and park on nearby Deer Lake, Burnaby.

An event the whole family can enjoy featuring, outdoor painting competition, over 15+ artisans, DeSerres children’s art workshop, we welcome Tsatsu Stalqaya - Coastal Wolf Pack, and be entertained by the Burnaby Summer Theatre, One Human Race – Afrika Collective Trio, Middle Eastern Dance plus more! Art Exhibition: DiverCity featuring Park’s Edge Paint Off Artists. Keep the beats rolling with a music jam in the back yard featuring tunes by Ben Lee aka DJ BJAM!

Let your imagination run WILD and paint crazy watercolour creatures with professionals from the Canadian art supplies company DeSerres. Everyone is welcome to stop by the Inspiration Station. Where does inspiration come from? Share your stories, draw and write what inspires you at their kid’s colouring station! DeSerres was founded in 1908 and remains a family-owned business in its third generation. We are pleased to have such great art experience at our event!

Experience the magic of live performance of Driven by Clockwork, an original play based off of Alice in Wonderland, is being presented by the Burnaby Summer Theatre for 2017! Watch Alice as she tries to escape the bounds of time in an ever-repeating mad tea party! Will she make it out alive? Will she be driven mad? The performance features an original script, and live, original music. Be ready to dance, sing, and laugh!

Stroll and shop at the juried Artisan Market under the tents. The Market features some of BC’s finest artists and designers displaying a variety of hand crafted items. The Festival includes 15+ artisans including: Preserved by Janet Percy, Andersen Distilleries – local Burnaby distillery, a glass blower, driftwood sculptures, handmade jewelry, textiles and homemade yummy short bread cookies by Sable Shortbread plus many many more artisans!

3-2-1 . . . PAINT! The final words one often hears when entering the colour massacres of live painting competitions. Usually a short amount of time, a palette of colours, brush in hand and an audience of eager onlookers excited about what creations lay in store from the competitors. Vancouver has seen a plethora of new live painting events pop up in recent years. This is our 2nd year featuring our very own Park’s Edge Paint Off: Live International Painting Tournament. Many people have never seen how paintings are created and it is an exciting spectacle to get a glimpse of what the creative process looks like first hand. Mingle that with an emphasis on speed and the chance for prizes and recognition and it's a recipe for a fun engaging event with thrills, excitement and culture. Audience voting determine the winners of the events, and silent auction for the real prize of those who will get to walk home with a one-of-a-kind piece of art. This year we are pleased to welcome DeSerres providing their high quality acrylic paint to the artists as well experts on hand to answer any questions you may have about their products. Burnaby Tourism, the local destination marketing organization and official ambassador of Burnaby have donated the prize money for the people’s choice 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners of the Park’s Edge Paint Off!
