Where to get cinnamon buns in Vancouver

As somewhat of a cinnamon bun savant (read: I get one at least once per week), I feel uniquely qualified to share my favourites. Here are, in my opinion, the best spots to get a sticky, sweet cinnamon roll in Vancouver (and please let me know if I missed your go-to; I’m always on the hunt).

      Grounds for Coffee

Grounds for Coffee is easily the most recommended Vancouver spot for cinnamon buns. Made fresh daily using select Canadian flour and locally-sourced ingredients, it’s no wonder this cinnamon bun is the it-girl of cinnamon buns. Plus, now and then, Grounds offers a limited-edition twist on the classic, like cherry compote topping or pastel icing for Easter.

      Wicked Cafe

This spot feels like a locals-only cafe with its unique mismatched decor, cozy seating, and location tucked away from main roads. Wicked Cafe offers a fruity twist on cinnamon buns: the Wicked Apple. It’s perfectly crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and filled with bits of apple, complete with a mountain of cream cheese icing and caramel drizzle on top.

      Small Victory

For a French twist on a classic, Small Victory offers a brioche cinnamon bun, which is a butterier and softer version. This cinnamon bun feels equal parts decadent and filling, making it ideal for a sweet breakfast or dessert. The smooth, pillowy brioche dough perfectly complements slightly melted icing. Get there early, though: these sell out fast!

      Beaucoup Bakery

Are you looking for something that is more of a twist on the traditional cinnamon bun? The offering from Beaucoup Bakery comes without the sticky icing and is instead dusted with icing sugar. Instead of pillowy dough, it uses croissant dough, leaving each bite flakey. Technically, this isn’t a cinnamon bun—according to the menu, it’s a scroll—but it will still satisfy the craving.

      Uprising Breads

Try the blueberry cinnamon bun at Uprising Bread if you’re looking for perfectly ooey and gooey qualities. While this spot is known for its loaves sold at various grocery stores in the Lower Mainland, the bakery-cafe is a must-visit for carb enthusiasts. The classic cinnamon bun is topped with blueberries for a burst of berry flavour.
