Tuesday nights have Fringe benefits on TV

Even if you missed its first two episodes, there’s still time to tune into Fringe (tonight, A, 9 p.m.), one of the best offerings of the new fall TV season.

Cocreated by J.J. Abrams, who picked up an Emmy Award for the same job on Lost, it contains many of his signature stylistic quirks, including telekinetic powers and a random animal (instead of Lost’s polar bear, this time there’s a cow in the laboratory. And a very nice imaginative take in 3-D captions.

It’s also a showcase for Vancouver actor Joshua Jackson, who plays Peter Bishop, the son of enigmatic and institutionalized research scientist Walter Bishop. The pair is made part of a special FBI team that investigates occurrences of fringe science (such as reanimation, telepathy, and invisibility) around the world.
