So You Think You Can Dance Canada: extra one-hour special announced

Fans of So You Think You Can Dance Canada will be pleased to know that CTV has announced there there will be one extra hour of coverage added.

Last week, the second season kicked off with a two-part premiere that included auditions in Toronto, Vancouver, and Saint John.

Among the highlights were an emotional audition from a First Nations dancer in Vancouver, and a New Brunswick male cheerleader who was criticized for being too feminine for the show. (In spite of gay marriage being legal in Canada, I guess our nation just isn't ready for Brokeback Ballroom.)

This week, auditions from Montreal and Edmonton will be revealed on Wednesday (August 18, 8 p.m. ET). It'll be followed by footage of the 200 dancers given a ticket to Toronto as they compete in Finals Week for a place in the top 20 (Thursday, August 19, 8 p.m. ET).

This episode will include dance challenges of:
Ӣ hip-hop, with guest judge Luther Brown;
”¢ jazz funk, with judge Tré Armstrong
Ӣ ballroom, with judges Jean-Marc Genereux and his wife France Mousseau;
Ӣ contemporary, with guest judge Blake McGrath.

A special one-hour episode has been added, scheduled to air on Sunday (August 23, 9 p.m. ET), in which the judges will announce which dancers have made it into the top 20.

But wait, there's more!

On Tuesday, August 25 (8 p.m. ET), the top 20 will show off their talents in the first performance episode that will run two hours long. The first two dancers will be eliminated on a half-hour show the next day on Wednesday, August 26 (7:30 p.m. ET).

Whew! It's quite a complicated schedule. Talk about choreography.
