Olympic gold medalists carry the torch in Victoria

Triathlete Simon Whitfield and speed skater Catriona Le May Doan were the first torchbearers holding the Olympic flame on Canadian soil.

The two Olympic gold medalists jointly held the torch before being joined by two other Olympic medalists, rower Silken Laumann and diver Alexandre Despatie.

The Olympic flame was brought into Victoria's Inner Harbour by a party of First Nations chiefs. The torch was lit by Darlene Poole, widow of recently deceased Vanoc chairman Jack Poole.
