Vancouver Women in Film Festival now accepting submissions for sixth year

The annual Vancouver Women in Film Festival announced last week that is now accepting film submissions for its sixth year of programming. The festival is scheduled to take place from March 4 to 8.

Independent filmmakers can submit both short and feature works up until November 1. Emerging and student filmmakers are welcome to apply, and while the festival is known for providing a platform for strong female characters and stories, men are also encouraged to send in films to be screened—with one caveat: all eligible films must feature three of the following above-the-line positions filled by women: writer, producer, director, lead actor, lead animator, lead editor, and director of photography.

The festival—one of the biggest events organized by Women in Film and Television Vancouver—also provides cash awards to filmmakers, including $1,500 in Legacy Awards and the Women In the Director’s Chair Feature Film Award, valued at nearly $100,000. In addition to screenings, last year's festival also featured panels on women in film, filmmaking workshops, and pitching sessions.

Details on submission criteria, fees, and deadlines can be found on the Vancouver Women in Film Festival Web site.
