Green party leader and MP-elect Elizabeth May overcame significant odds to dislodge incumbent Conservative Gary Lunn in Saanich-Gulf Islands.

But overcome she did, and now international plaudits are rolling in from across the globe, showing that the Green movement is a global one that has its eyes trained internationally.

Toronto lawyer Camille Labchuk from May's campaign team has seen a bunch of tweets roll in, some addressed to May personally.

Most significantly, well-regarded Aussie Senator Bob Brown tweeted, "Hearty congratulations @ElizabethMay! First Greens seat in Canada's lower house. What a ripper!"

Belgian Green Kristof Calvo followed suit, along with James Mackenzie, media spokesperson for Green Scottish MSPs Robin Harper and Patrick Harvie.

"Massive massive congratulations from Scotland," Mackenzie tweeted. "Nice boost coming two days before our vote."

Now let's see what May can move and shake from within the House of Commons.

Best news of the election. She will be a green force and a truly progressive voice in an otherwise polarized House.
