If there's one thing that my mother and I have in common, it's that we both love to eat, so I can't think of a better way to spend Mother's Day than doing just that.

For those of you who want to avoid overcrowded restaurants, here's a unique gift idea that involves more than just eating. The Dirty Apron Cooking School (540 Beatty Street) is holding a special Mother's Day class called Mom's Night Out on Sunday (May 8) from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The class includes creating and eating a meal that includes warm goat cheese and apricot cake with grilled pear and prosciutto salad, roasted whole Cornish game hen with gravy mustard pan jus and truffle, and risotto. Desserts are thrice as nice with chocolate soufflé, rosewater crí¨me brí»lée, and chocolate dipped strawberries.

The class costs $145 per person.
