You've heard the album, now read the book!

English art director and graphic designer Christophe Gowans has added yet another stroke of comic brilliance to his series The Record Books, in which he reimagines landmark LPs as paperbacks and hardcovers from a huge range of periods and genres in publishing.

His design for Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon (above), posted yesterday on his website, comes with the following synopsis:

“Alternative scientific textbook from the 60s. Californian professor Floyd achieved enormous success with this study of the moon’s influence on the menstrual cycle.”

Every entry in the lengthy series (among them the Pixies’ Surfer Rosa and Queen’s A Day at the Races and A Night at the Opera, below) is so evocative of old library shelves that you can smell the mildew.

Lovers of record-sleeve design will also get a kick out of Gowan’s photo series The Family Album.
