DanceHouse and Centre Choréographique National de Créteil et du Val-de-Marne / Compagnie Käfig present Käfig Brasil on April 10 and 11 at the Vancouver Playhouse (600 Hamilton).

The production, directed by Mourad Merzouki, sees 11 dancers from the slums of Brazil perform work by four choreographers with wildly different styles.

In their various works, Anthony Egéa explores ecstasy and abandonment, Céline Lefèvre riffs on poetry, Denis Plassard offers pointed humour, and Octavio Nassur references hip-hop and capoeira.

A fifth piece has been crafted by the dancers themselves. The accompanying music ranges from classical to contemporary, encompassing artists such as Vivaldi and EDM artist Deadmau5.

Each performance starts at 8 pm, although there is a pre-show talk at 7:15 pm in the Vancouver Playhouse's upper lobby.

Tickets for Käfig Brasil range from $35 to $70 and can be bought online in advance or by calling 604-801-6225.
