Your chance to try Gears of War 4 months before it releases comes to an end this week. Plus, if you want a demon to sit on your desk you can get one, Doom-style, and you can get some video game fun, classic-style, thanks to Bandai Namco. But first, Mirror's Edge Catalyst is delayed.

EA delays Mirror's Edge Catalyst until June 7

Even before the closed beta began for Mirror's Edge Catalyst, developers at the Swedish studio DICE, where the game is being made, announced that it won't be releasing until June 7, two weeks later than expected.

Design director Erik Odeldahl wrote about the date change and said that the delay was necessary to ensure that the development team had sufficient time to make changes based on feedback from the beta.

The closed beta, which started on April 22 and which ends on Tuesday, was the first big test of DICE's Social Play, which introduces competition into the game and lets players design their own parkour race courses over the rooftops of the City of Glass.

Get your own Doom demon for your desk

Doom, one of the original first-person shooter video games, gets a modern-day update courtesy of id Software, the studio that created the first game, which appeared in 1993.

The new game, in development for PS4, Windows, and Xbox One, is getting released on May 13.

Publisher Bethesda Softworks has announced a collector's edition, which is priced at US$120 and which includes a 12-inch model of the Revenant, one of the game's iconic demons, perched on a base that is lit by LED.

Soak up that nostalgia from Bandai Namco

Last week, Bandai Namco reissued high-definition versions of four classic video games: Dig Dug, Galaga, Pac-Man, and Ms. Pac-Man.

The four games are available digitally for PS4, Windows, and Xbox One. Dig Dug, Galaga, and Pac-Man can also be purchased as a bundle.

You can never get enough Galaga.

Last chance to play Gears of War 4 beta

Since April 18, excited Xbox One gamers have been getting tokens to get early access to the Gears of War 4 multiplayer beta. As of yesterday, everyone who is an Xbox Live Gold member can get in on the action.

And last week, we discovered a bit more about the story being told in Gears 4. The new game, which takes place 25 years after the adventure of Delta Squad ended, features the son of the first series’ main protagonist, Marcus Fenix.

This trailer shows how the new game connects to the past. As described by the fine folks at Vancouver studio The Coalition, which is making the game: “This is the story of two tomorrows. The one Marcus envisioned, and the one 25 years later where all hope is shattered as a new nightmare is reborn”.

The beta ends on May 1.
