The Verses Festival of Words presents the book launch for C.R. Avery’s Some Birds Walk for the Hell of It. The book launch takes place April 6 at 3:30 p.m. at Astorino’s (1739 Venables Street).

Some Birds Walk for the Hell of It celebrates the virtues of the bohemian brigade, late-night denizens of inconvenient beauty, the dissolute and the temporary, lawless black leather pioneers of innovation, and every battle scarred member of this “helpless grey sky tribe”. Avery’s poetry is alternatively profane, brilliantly vulgar, outrageously funny, and brash in its lonesome courage.

This is Avery’s third book of poetry and prose. The collection of poems is also the basis of an operetta, which starts touring in May. At the book launch, Avery will be joined by DJ Su Comandante, burlesque performers Lola Frost and Lydia DeCarllo, and dancers Darcy McMurray and Susand Kanial.

The Verses Festival of Words celebrates the transformative power of words with poetic, musical, comedic, and literary performances, book launches, critical talks, and the Canadian Indie Poetry Championships. The festival runs from April 5 to 12.

CR Avery is a genius. His improv rap during the last show at the Waldorf was legendary. All the best to his success!
