      The 20th annual Word Vancouver reading and writing festival returns September 24 to 28. Free events take place at various Vancouver venues including the Vancouver Public Library’s central branch and Library Square, SFU Harbour Centre, Banyen Books & Sound, The Paper Hound, The Cottage Bistro, and the Historic Joy Kogawa House.

      This year, over 100 readings and 20 workshops that feature 150 authors are included.

      From Wednesday to Friday (September 24 to 26), enjoy author readings at Banyen Books & Sound, The Cottage Bistro, and the Historic Joy Kogawa House every evening. This year’s featured authors include Bruce Grierson, George Murray, Sarah Ellis, Dina Del Bucchia, Grant Lawrence, Kevin Chong, Wayde Compton, William New, Doretta Lau, Nancy Lee, Tilar Mazzeo, Ian Weir, Caroline Adderson, Danielle S. Marcotte, Linda Bailey, and Willie Sellars.

      On Saturday (September 27), take part in free professional development workshops at Library Square or a workshop on chapbooks at SFU Harbour Centre.

      The main event on Sunday (September 28) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. includes readings, panel discussions, workshops, entertainment, and exhibitor marketplace open to all ages in and around the Vancouver Public Library’s central branch.
