On August 12 and 13, the Richmond Maritime Festival takes over the Britannia Shipyard National Historic Site (5180 Westwater Drive, Richmond).

The family-friendly event will celebrate the maritime industry that helped build British Columbia with roving costumed characters, storytellers, visual artists, live entertainment, and wooden boats.

Festivalgoers will be able to enjoy food-truck fare, a Saturday-evening concert by local indie-folk band Good for Grapes, a kids' area, building tours, and a new exhibit in the Seine Net Loft.

A special celebration of wooden boats will feature boat-building demonstrations, displays, and free public boarding of a number of historic vessels, including the SS Master, the Merrie Ellen, the Ella McKenzie, and the River Queen.

      The event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 13.

Admission to the Richmond Maritime Festival is free of charge. Fore more information check out the event's website.
