Nominate a family in need to enjoy Irish Sunday roast at Forkhill House Irish Bistro

The Irish and British tradition of the Sunday roast is one that brings together family and loved ones to connect over a hearty meal. Unfortunately, this traditional and much-beloved meal has been in decline.

However, a local culinary establishment wants to introduce Vancouverites to it, particularly those who may never have the chance to enjoy such a meal.

Forkhill House Irish Bistro—in collaboration with McWatters Collection wines, Guinness, and Hop House 13—is presenting Roast and Toast, an opportunity for families to experience family dinner the Irish way.

The restaurant will choose one family or individual per month to partake in a turkey Sunday roast for up to eight people, complete with all the trimmings, wine and beer courtesy of McWatters and Guiness, and dessert.

Nominations for those who would be worthy candidates for such an opportunity—ranging from underprivileged families to an overworked single parent who truly needs a night out to someone who's facing incredibly tough circumstances and could use a much-deserved break—can be made by sending a private message via Facebook or emailing the restaurant.

Submissions must be sent by 12 p.m. on the Friday prior to the Roast and Toast day. Winners will also be announced by 3 p.m. on the Friday before the event.

The first event is being held on Sunday (October 15) and the call for nominations has already closed for that dinner. However, nominees are being accepted for dinners on November 19 and December 17.

The West End restaurant, located at 1616 Alberni Street, opened on March 1 to offer modern takes on classic Irish cuisine, ranging from Irish stew to bangers and mash.

Located in a house that was formerly occupied by Le Gavroche, the restaurant is also taking reservations for its 64-seat dining room and 32-seat private room. Interested parties can contact the restaurant by email.
