AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd convicted of weed possession

AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd was convicted of cannabis possession in a New Zealand courtroom yesterday. Cops had executed a search warrant on his boat at Tauranga Bridge Marina in October and found about 27 grams of wacky tobaccy.

Rudd was given a fine of $250—about as much as he's earned in royalties since you started reading this—and ordered to pay court fees, but the real penalty from his standpoint was the conviction itself. AC/DC travels around the world a lot—as they did on the Black Ice World Tour that touched down in Vancouver in 2008 and again in 2009—and the conviction could hinder Rudd's ability to enter certain countries. Now he'll have to declare that he has been previously arrested on drug charges, an admission that might not go over so well with non-rocking customs agents in places like the good old U.S. of A., where AC/DC makes most of its dough.

Rudd's apparent fondness for toking up is understandable, of course, since several of his band's albums--including the massively popular Black Ice--were recorded right here in Vanland. That's right, diehard fan who threw that joint onstage last time. I'm blaming you!
