Jack Layton funeral videos: Stephen Lewis eulogy; Steven Page sings "Hallelujah"

Two of the highlights of Jack Layton's televised funeral were Stephen Lewis's eulogy and singer Steven Page's rendition of the Leonard Cohen classic "Halleluhah".

Canada's former ambassador to the UN, Stephen Lewis, talks about Jack Layton.

Former Barenaked Ladies member Steven Page sings "Hallelujah".

Former Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff was at yesterday's funeral. Here's what he posted on his Facebook page this morning:

At Jack Layton’s funeral service at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto, I thought, yes we are separate families, separate traditions, and yes, we’ve fought each other over the years, but now sitting together in the same hall, isn’t it obvious how much we have in common?

The words we care about—generosity, justice, hope—they care about them too. We don’t own these words and they don’t own them either. These values are bigger than all of us, bigger than our divisions and our arguments.

It was good to put the past behind us for an afternoon and imagine what the future of our country might look like if we put those values first.

By his life Jack showed us that love is stronger than hate and kindness stronger than cruelty and he also showed us that a generous spirit well-lived can lead us in the right direction.....let's follow Jack's example and follow his direction politically as well as in our lives, away from greed, injustice and indifference and toward a more just society and a more just world where we all care more for one another and for this beautiful planet that offers us life.
Olivia and Children, you paid a wonderful tribute to Jack in your expression of optimism and love. What an amazing memorial!

First I will tell you I am not NDP. The day of Jack Layton's Memorial I was was feeling very sad and also for his family going through all of this with their loss.God Bless Them All. Now I would like to speak of those who gave an eulogy. I thought it was awesome....except the one that Stephen Lewis gave.I thought it was far to long and it was mostly all political. This was a Memorial Service, not a campaign. I did catch some of the sarcasim towards other parties, this was so unfair and I really don't think Jack Layton would ever give an eulogy like this one.I remember MR Layton saying "Love One Another" not "Talk About Others". God Bless Olivia and the family and RIP Jack Layton.
