      October 19 to 30: Cortex store pop-up

It’s your last chance to nab small-batch wears from “independent designer” shop Cortex, which will be wrapping up its pop-up shop at Little Mountain Shop (4386 Main Street) this weekend. From now until October 30 (Sunday), you can get your hands on a curated selection of contemporary pieces for your wardrobe and home, like cozy menswear by Vancouver’s Habits of Youth, hand-dyed scarves by the local Noctex, and ceramic dishes and coasters by Kelowna’s Wolf + Sadie. Edgy leather jewellery, casual knitwear, and luxury candles are also available from designers based as far away as Montreal, St. Petersburg, and Portland.

October 27: Fluevog Shoes and Music sale

Fluevog Shoes is teaming up with Vancouver’s Saint James Music Academy for an evening of feel-good shopping. Visit the Fluevog’s Gastown outpost (65 Water Street) tonight (October 27), nab those leather booties or platform Mary Janes you’ve been eyeing—you know, the ones with the silver buckle and impossibly chunky heel—and 50 percent of the sale will go directly toward the Saint James Music Academy and its efforts in providing children in the Downtown Eastside a free after-school music program where they can engage with the arts in a safe environment. Refreshments will be served and kids from the academy will be performing at Fluevog throughout the evening as a gentle reminder of the talent your hard-earned money dollar will be supporting.

      October 28 to 29: AG Hair pop-up

Homegrown haircare line AG Hair is popping up at Nordstrom Pacific Centre (799 Robson Street) as part of the retailer’s beauty trend week. This Friday and Saturday (October 28 and 29), visit the shop’s beauty department on the main level and get schooled by the pros on how to get your mane soft, shiny, and holiday-ready. Receive touch-ups by celebrity stylist Christopher Deagle—who’s coiffed models for Louis Vuitton and Ralph Lauren—and sample products from hair sprays, dry shampoos, and pomades from AG’s extensive range. (We love the Texture sea spray that leaves our strands in a natural, crunch-free wave.)

October 28 to November 3: Aslan Chai pop-up café

Regular consumers of chai know that finding a balanced cup ain’t always easy. But Vancouver’s Aslan Chai is hoping to win over tea drinkers with its pop-up chai bar—apparently the first of its kind in the city—which takes place from this Friday (October 28) to November 3 at 434 Columbia Street. Stop by for samples of Aslan’s handcrafted and 100-percent vegan spicy chai, pumpkin spice, and hot chocolate–infused Aztec chai blends and browse goods from the 10 other makers onsite, too. Among them will be wood coasters by Reclaimed Print Co., seasonal lights from Canvas Candle Company, and pyrographic illustrations by Burn & Yonder. Edible treats from Goodmallows, Two Daughters Bake Shop, and Hives for Humanity will also be on deck to complement the tea.

Browse goods from over 35 local designers and makers, including Ahoy Soap Company, at the first-ever Artisan's Event.

      October 30: The Artisan’s Event

The Artisan’s Event is the latest craft fair to join Vancouver’s happenin’ handmade circle and it’s making its debut at the Heritage Hall (3102 Main Street) this Sunday (October 30). Expect items from over 35 B.C.–based vendors, including gemstone jewellery by Malie Creations, all-natural body care from Ahoy Soap Company, and hand-painted decorative magnets by artist Janelle Anakotta. There will be plenty of kid-friendly buys, too, like organic-cotton rattles, ecofriendly textiles, and tiny fringed moccasins. Stocking up on greeting cards for the holiday season? Visit Duoly Noted’s booth, where you can nab adorable personalized cards for all occasions.

Suggested admission is $2 and will benefit the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
