VJFF 2013 review: Dandelions

(France)

    1 of 2 2 of 2

The crowd-pleasing highlight of three French films at this year’s fest, Dandelions’ stellar cast includes Agnès Jaoui (who usually stars in films she directs) as a harried mother losing her cool in 1981 France and Isabella Rossellini (who also show up in the fest opener, The Zigzag Kid) as a savvy child psychiatrist. In this beautifully crafted memory piece, which just occasionally hits the comedy button a little too hard, you won’t forget the child in question, a tentative sprite (played by newcomer Juliette Gombert) awakened by a sparkplug new best friend. Don’t miss it.
