VIFF 2012 review: Dom: A Russian Family

(Russia)

    1 of 1 2 of 1

Although set mainly in a contemporary, post-Soviet farm lost in Russia’s endless steppes, this movie is very much a latter-day western. A much-hated gangster decides to say goodbye to his relatives before disappearing forever. The problem is, a large number of mysterious strangers would prefer it if he disappeared rather more permanently than he intended. Over-the-top acting counterpointed by over-the-top violence. A real guilty pleasure.
