VIFF 2012 review: McDull: The Pork of Music

(Hong Kong)

    1 of 1 2 of 1

I’ve seen other installments in this popular series of Hong Kong cartoons, and I still couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on in the latest tale of a kindergarten-age piglet and his ongoing problems. The humour is both scattershot and scatological, and filmmaker Brian Tse, like McDull and his animalesque classmates, has an indiscriminate love of songs, most of which lean toward shlock, even when they started as classics. It’s strictly from Weirdsville, and yet the whole thing is insanely enjoyable.
