VIFF 2012 Review: Side by Side: The Science, Art and Impact of Digital Cinema

There are a lot of famous talking heads in this movie, and a lot of even more famous film clips. More of an extended debate than a traditional documentary, Side by Side discusses the relative merits of 35mm and digital filmmaking. Ultimately, the first is beautiful but doomed; the second is both flashy and tawdry but with a possibly promising future. There’s not much more anyone can say, really. Alas.
