VIFF 2012 Review: Soundbreaker: The World of Kimmo Pohjonen

      (Finland)

Raised to be a classical and folk musician, accordionist Pohjonen rebelled and eventually forged his own path, combining original, sometimes Sigur Rós–type sounds with industrial noises and random performance elements. Here, in Kimmo Koskela’s stylish film, these include jamming with English farm equipment and diving, with accordion, into frozen lakes. Unforgettable.

      Granville, September 27 (10:30 a.m.) and October 12 (6:40 p.m.); Vancity, October 6 (1:30 p.m.).
