VIFF 2012 review: The Unlikely Girl

(USA/France)

    1 of 1 2 of 1

Written and directed by a Chinese-American woman (Wei Ling Chang) working in France, the mysterious Unlikely Girl gets off to a good start, establishing an ominously erotic mood when a local bad girl (played memorably by Hande Kodja) and a visiting American student (Shane Lynch) vie for the same boy. As coincidences pile up, the story gets shakier, and it gradually winds down to a disappointingly murky finish.
