The COVID-19 pandemic delivered a devastating blow to the world of live entertainment.

But the video-game sector enjoyed a big boost with so many people keeping their distance from one another and spending more time at home.

According to Statista, the number of gamers has topped 3.2 billion in 2021, which accounts for more than 40 percent of the world's population.

Overall, the market and consumer data site estimated that there are nearly 1.5 billion gamers in Asia, compared to 715.8 million in Europe, 419.6 million in Latin America, and 284.9 million in North America.

Statista stated that half of the rise of US$156 billion in global video-game revenue this year will come from Asia. The overall rise amounts to a 13 percent increase in 2021.
