Lola MacLaughlin and Noam Gagnon dance off with Isadora Awards

Friday, September 13 turned out to be a lucky date for two well-known members of B.C.’s dance community, Lola MacLaughlin and Noam Gagnon, who were announced as winners of the Isadora Awards for Excellence in Choreography and Performance respectively.

MacLaughlin, founder and artistic director of Lola Dance, was honoured for her ensemble work, Provincial Essays, which premiered at the Scotiabank Dance Centre in 2007, and was later featured at the Canada Dance Festival.

Gagnon, co-artistic director and choreographer of The Holy Body Tattoo, was recognized for his performance in The Vision Impure, the first project of his new Co. Vision Selective company, which premiered at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre in 2007. The piece featured works choreographed by himself and English dancer Nigel Charnock.

In a ceremony at the Scotiabank Dance Centre, MacLaughlin and Gagnon were each presented with an Isadora Award—a glass sculpture by Mary Filer—along with subsidized rehearsal space at the dance centre worth $500, plus $500 cash.
