Bloodshots: The 48-Hour Horror Filmmaking Challenge awards handed out

Over 250 of Vancouver’s most die-hard horror film fanatics crammed into the ANZA Club on October 29 for the screening of Bloodshots: The 48-Hour Horror Filmmaking Challenge, which lasted until the wee hours of Thursday morning.

Of the 23 short films that were in competition, two were chosen as finalists for the grand prize of $1000, to be determined later this week by grand prize juror Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator, Stuck). The two finalists are Scott Belyea’s “Ten Minutes Before Showtime” (chosen by the judges), about a performance gone awry for two clown performers, and Tracy D. Smith’s “No Means No” (chosen by audience online voting and announced on November 3), a rape/revenge tale featuring a camping trip gone deadly.

Other awards included best costume for Jimi Cuell’s “Thriller”-inspired dance-off entitled “Tony Slotslider’s Book of Terror”, best script for Angel Acosta’s “Ghoulfellas”, and most promising producers awarded to the writer/producer team of them2kids, made up of 12 year-old Megan McKinnon and 10 year-old Connor Stanhope. Anthony Wilson from “It Girl” and Susan Dalton from “Some Like It Cold” took home best actor and honorable mention for acting respectively.
