Vancouver jewellery designer Shereen De Rousseau will see her Renaissance-styled creations adorn the bikini-clad babes in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

It’s the second time De Rousseau has seen her work included in the annual edition.

Look for her modern-meets-antique designs on swimsuit models Ariel Meredith, Brooklyn Decker, Tori Praver, and Melissa Haro.

All handmade at her studio, where she strings beads by hand and casts silver charms and coins, De Rousseau’s designs cater towards a stylish vintage shopper. “My jewellery is suited to a casually chic woman,” said De Rousseau of her niche market. “A woman who likes jeans and a tee but always wears them with great style.”

Each of her four collections have a distinct style, attracting a different types of buyers, including stylists and celebrities. De Rousseau has come a long way in a short time, only focusing on her designs full-time for two years, after working 20 years in the fashion industry.

Her designs have European influence from her travels across the pond to the city of romance. “The art, architecture, and people really influenced me. French women always inspire me with their gift for accessorizing,” said De Rousseau.

Her Marbre Gris collection features a combination of silver and bronze vintage coins and multi-layered chains mixed with religious symbol pendants and stone rosary-type beads placed on braided and brushed metal hoop-link chains.

The Colibri Noir pieces have a unique antique look to them with stones carved into shapes of shark teeth, leaves, and other objects in nature. She uses white and grey howlite, as well as aquamarine stones. “Most of my pieces with [stones] are handknotted on silk cord to really showcase the beauty of the stones colour,” said De Rousseau.

Her Perle Paon collection includes glossy black pearls strung on hand braided chains. The final collection, Médallions Antiques, from which quite a few of the pieces used in Sports Illustrated were used, includes sterling silver and brushed bronze Tiffany-style charm bracelets and necklaces with toggle closures alongside a variety of antique pendants and medallions on brushed gold bangles.

Necklaces and bracelets range from $327 to $575, rings from $150, and her single set of earrings goes for $140.

De Rousseau will be launching her belt line this spring, and her next line is set to include some red coral and green peridot stones.
