New Machete trailer takes exploitive aim at immigration law in Arizona

Anyone who thought the faux horror/exploitation trailers featured in Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's Grindhouse were the best thing about that 2007 double-feature should get a load of the new trailer for Machete.

According to Harry Knowles of Ain't It Cool News, he was paid a visit by Machete actor Danny Trejo and codirector Rodriguez yesterday and they delivered a package that included an "Illegal" trailer of the film. It includes a special Cinco de Mayo message from Trejo to the state of Arizona, which recently passed a controversial immigration bill allowing police to demand papers from anyone they suspect of being there unlawfully.

Unlike "Werewolf Women of the SS", the faux trailer Rob Zombie shot for Grindhouse, "Machete" is actually being made into a feature, which is scheduled for release this fall by 20th Century Fox. Besides Trejo—a cult actor best known for playing scummy criminals—the film stars Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan, Steven Seagal, Jeff Fahey, Cheech Marin, and Don Johnson.

Looks like it could be the best movie ever made.

Dontcha just love it when zillionaire celebrities tell their fans what racist hicks they are? Kinda like Gordon Brown, muttering about how biggoted a loyal Labour voter was, for daring to criticise immigration. You've gotta love these elitist snobs--they know better, after all.

"Introducing" Don Johnson. That's hilarious. And the grand return of Steven Seagal to cinemas? I'm all over it. This one looks more grindhouse than Grindhouse. Hopefully the Canuck-made "Hobo With A Shotgun" will compare.

Also it's hilarious to call Rodriguez (a populist maker of exploitation films, from a grassroots background in Mexico) an "elitist". If he's the "elitist", then what of the rich, old, white reactionaries who drafted the draconian laws he's criticizing?
