Four hospitalized after early-morning shootings in Gastown

Three women and one man wound up in hospital early this morning after a shooting incident near the corner of Water and Richards streets in downtown Vancouver.

None have life-threatening injuries after the attack, which resulted in police cordoning off the Gastown area where the gunshots were fired.

The incident occurred less than two days after the Vancouver Police Department issued a warning that it would be out in full force on Halloween night to deal with "a high probability of gang-related violence".

Police noted in a statement that the public will notice more officers than usual in the Granville Entertainment District and near the PNE, which is in Hastings Park in East Vancouver.

The dark flip side of the coin for being a "world class city", I guess. I liked it better when we were referred to on sportscasts in U.S. cities as "the village of Vancouver", the vast majority of the people you met weren't from Toronto or other countries(go ahead, call me xenophobic and "provincial", you know I'm right no matter where you're from) and there weren't shootouts in public parks (bordered by residential housing) with 150 shots fired. Didn't you?

I thought the police had gangs all under control? I didn't think the VPD had it in them but knew with the help of the Olympic security it would be under wraps. The reality is BC is a shoot em up kinda a place where innocent citizens end up dead on the street and police warnings don't cut it and neither do the police.

World Class City? Vancouver?

With all due respect P.T. you need to turn off your T.V., cancel the paper and travel a bit?
