Anti-HST recall bid fails against B.C. MLA Don McRae

The anti-HST recall effort has failed against Vancouver Island Liberal MLA Don McRae.

Elections B.C. says organizers did not collect enough petition signatures by the March 22 deadline.

Under B.C. recall legislation, the petition organizers had been given 60 days to collect the names of at least 19,348 voters in McRae’s Comox Valley electoral district to force a byelection.

McRae is the latest Liberal MLA to avoid being forced out of his seat over the unpopular 12-percent tax.

An earlier recall bid against cabinet minister Ida Chong also failed after too few signatures were gathered.

However, anti-HST recall petitions remain underway against cabinet minister Terry Lake and Maple Ridge MLA Marc Dalton.

@Stephen Thomson - You somehow forget to describe the magnitude of the failure. There were but 5,181 signatures were collected. I had to get that number from a news organization in order to be able to inform your readers.

@Chris Delaney - Seems time to double down and get recalls started in the rest of the ridings in BC. I'm sure your vision and organizational efforts will serve your BC First party well in the next provincial general election and as well I look forward to your candidacy in the Point Grey bi-election.

0 for 3...three out of three recall attempts fail...wake up and smell the coffee recall folk - the HST referendum has taken the wind right out of your recall sails...and as far as I'm concerned all your recall efforts have wasted all kinds of time and money that could have been put into helping people in immediate need...and I don't believe that your failed recall efforts have helped them in anyway.

hopefully Vanderzalm stays back under the rock he crawled out from...

This recall campaign was never about the HST, but rather scoring a shot at the Liberals. If it had really been about the tax, equal pressure would have been put on the leaders of the NDP. In the end, this is why it failed.
