Indian Summer Festival brings the heat to Vancouver

Award-winning Canadian author Yann Martel, Indian virtuoso violinist and composer Lakshminarayana Subramaniam, and Vancouver’s Indian haute-cuisine chef Vikram Vij are just three of the big names who will be sharing the spotlight during the first Indian Summer Festival from July 7 to 17. The event, which takes place at SFU Woodward’s Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, will showcase Canadian and international Indian talent in music, dance, literature, film, yoga, and cuisine.

An opening gala on July 8 will see Martel in conversation with Bollywood film star Tabu, who will appear in director Ang Lee’s recently completed adaptation of Martel’s Man Booker Prize–winning novel, Life of Pi.

Subramaniam, fresh from a performance for the General Assembly of the United Nations, will perform classical South Indian Carnatic music in a July 9 concert. For a full festival lineup and to purchase tickets, visit www.indiansummerfestival.ca.
