Unionized workers at the Vancouver Art Gallery have voted in support of striking amid frustration over contract negotiations.

Ninety-five percent of the workers who took part in the recent vote favoured job action, CUPE Local 15 announced today (April 3).

The union represents 120 gallery employees in a variety of fields who have been without a contract since 2010.

“This is a very dedicated workforce that has weathered layoffs, decimated departments and unrealistic workloads while continuing to put the public first,” CUPE Local 15 president Paul Faoro said in a news release.

The Vancouver Art Gallery could not be reached for comment.

Contract negotiations were slated to continue today and the union has not delivered the 72-hour notice required under law before employees can strike.
