Three multi-company groups have been shortlisted to potentially help create a new $134-million campus for Emily Carr University of Art + Design.

The selected proponents are operating under the names Applied Arts Team, B.C. Education Partners, and Tandem Education Partners, the university announced today (July 2).

“The three proponents chosen will have a very challenging and intriguing assignment to design, build, finance and maintain an art and design school that represents the creative campus of the future,” Emily Carr president Ron Burnett said in a release.

The three shortlisted consortiums were selected from eight teams that responded to a request for qualifications.

A request for proposals for the new campus is to be issued this fall and the contract is expected to be awarded by summer 2014.

The project is part of a plan to relocate Emily Carr University from its current location on Granville Island to the Great Northern Way Campus in East Vancouver.

The university’s new campus is expected to be ready by 2016.
