Fringe Fest 2015: Grandma's Dead features charismatic performance

    1 of 1 2 of 1

Modest and sweet, Sam Mullins’s Grandma’s Dead is always mildly engaging.

In his solo show, Mullins tells the story of estranged brothers Sam and Chad, who drive from Vancouver to Saskatchewan to bury their grandmother. The nature of the brothers’ conflict isn’t clearly defined or particularly high-stakes—they just kind of bug one another—so there’s not a lot of narrative tension or shape.

On the plus side, Mullins’ mime is clearly defined, and he is a charismatic performer. Just wait till you see his deer impersonation.

      At the Waterfront Theatre. Remaining performances on September 14 (10:15 p.m.), 15 (7:30 p.m.), 17 (5 p.m.), 19 (12:30 p.m.), and 20 (8:30 p.m.)
