Colin Mochrie returns to his roots as shows announced for The Improv Centre

Chances are that you know Colin Mochrie for a decades-long career that spans the stage, TV, and movies—his most iconic gig being one of Drew Carey’s go-to improv aces on the long-running Whose Line Is It Anyway?.

Go back to the beginning, however, and it all started in Vancouver: a city that the veteran comedian returns to next spring for five shows at the Improv Centre on March 6, 7, and 8, 2024. Supporting Mochrie for those shows will be The Improv Centre’s cast.

TIC artistic director Jalen Saip said this in a release: “Performing with Colin is a dream—not only because he is one of the most internationally acclaimed improv performers and undeniably hilarious, but also because he is such a supportive and uplifting cast member. He is a joy to work with and we can’t wait!”

The shows will find Mochrie returning to his West Coast roots. Born in Scotland, and raised in East Van where he attended Killarney Secondary School, the 65-year-old helped found the legendary TheatreSports League (which turned into The Improv Centre) in the '80s after graduating from Langara’s Studio 58 theatre program.

Proving that improv hasn’t always been the draw that it has become today in Vancouver, Mochrie has said about those early years that cast members “literally had to pull people out of McDonald’s to come see the shows.”

For his return to Vancouver at TIC, the comic offered this: “Looking forward to playing at the place where it all started for me. A chance to work with old friends and some new ones, all of them world-class improvisors.”

One of the best things about Mochrie's Vancouver appearances is the way they will be part of an ongoing legacy in which 10 per cent of ticket sales will go to education programs at The Improv Centre.
