(Update: After this article appeared, three people, including two police officers, were shot outside a synogogue in Copenhagen. The death toll stands at two and five others are injured from the two incidents.)

One of the leaders of the feminist protest group Femen was speaking in a Copenhagen cafe when a gunman started shooting outside.

Inna Shevchenko, often a critic of authorities, tweeted thanks to police "for saving us today".

Her Twitter account offered a detailed rundown of what happened from the perspective of someone inside the Krudttonden cafe at the free-speech event.

"I was at the point of ny [sic] speech when i was saying that often it is an illusion that we have freedom of speech in Europe then we heard shots," she wrote.

BBC News has reported that one person is dead and three police officers are injured after a lone gunman in a purple balaclava began firing shots outside.

In another tweet, Shevchenko stated that police at the front of the cafe were protecting the speakers when they were shot.

"i didn't see anything, we just heard shots behind the door the panel took place in," she stated in another tweet.

In another, she declared: "Let's NOT be scared! Let's fully enjoy our freedom. This is the best weapon agsinst [sic] extremists."

In another, Shevchenko wrote: "If all secularists, humanists would be that brave as those gunmen, we would NOT live his now #Copenhagen #cophenhagenshooting"

Femen activists often go topless and shout slogans against what they perceive to be political, religious, and patriarchal tyranny.

In the past, they have disrupted events involving world leaders like Vladimir Putin and Silvio Berlusconi.

A Femen protester also abuducted Baby Jesus from a Vatican nativity scene in December.

The event featured Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks. He has reportedly received death threats in the past for drawing the Prophet Mohammad.

Vilks is on an al-Qaeda of the Arabian Peninsula "most wanted" list, according to the BBC.

The French ambassador to Denmark, Francois Zimeray, was also in the room at the time of the attack.

Shevchenko's most recent tweet simply stated: "Again and again being threatened with death..by death for enjoying freedom of speech. #copenhagenshooting"

Last year, the Straight reported Femen's assertion that there may have been an assassination plot against Shevchenko, who speaks on behalf of the group.

A man was arrested with a knife after stabbing three people in Paris. Prior to the attack, he had been looking for Shevchenko.

The 'religion of peace' strikes again!!

Of course, Obama will call these "random shootings", or a "work place incident"!!

I would like to see some reactions, provided this comment will be allowed!!

Interestingly (or not), the story of the Danish Moslem killer is the same as every other story like this. Almost the exact same deal as the Paris shooting.

All of the people who told us that these people would adapt if they were raised in our culture are now in a position where they must explain why the exact opposite is happening – why those Moslems raised in our countries are exponentially more prone to violence than those who migrate here.

We also need to be told what is going to happen when the generation being born now to all of these “asylum seekers” grows up. Because based on the current trend, huge numbers of these people are going to be mass-murderers.

Finally, Europe needs to ask itself: do we really want a massive population of mass-murderers living in our countries, committing acts of slaughter on a regular basis?
