Vancouver City Council paves way for lounges in microbreweries

Last night (July 9), Vancouver City Council voted to amend a bylaw to allow breweries, distilleries, and wineries to add a lounge area where patrons can drink on-site.

Previously, production breweries could offer tastings but charge people for only up to 12 ounces of beer per person, to be consumed in the tasting room.

There was a joyful reaction to the news on Twitter last night from CAMRA Vancouver members and other craft beer lovers. However, breweries still need to apply for provincial approval to add a lounge.

CAMRA member Paddy Treavor outlines the challenges to come in his VanEast Beer Blog.

More bars just mean more drunks on the road.
