Macaron overdose
I love dessert, especially near the end of the week after all my resources have been depleted dealing with my histrionic husband. But I dislike macarons.
They're everywhere in Vancouver. They look almost too pretty to bite into. And at $3 a piece, one is certainly not enough.
I love them as a concept with all their exotic flavours such as pistachio, salted caramel, and mango—yet when I bite into a macaron, it's as good as eating a teaspoon of sugar.
All I seem to taste is the sugar in them.
It's spring and I think it's time for a change. Out with old, in with the new. No more macarons.

Ultimately, I'd probably agree w/ the opinions expressed, but having grown-up on coconut-ty, uber-delish macaroons... well, I'd really love to try some of these "alternative", fancy-french sugar bombs. (BTW, that s/b macarons, non?)

Macaron is the French spelling. The Georgia Straight uses a Canadian English dictionary that spells it this way: macaroon.
