Fifth annual Canada Line blanket drive to help homeless

Want to help poor and homeless people stay warm this winter? If you ride the Canada Line, it's as easy as bringing a few blankets with you to donate on November 22 and 23.

The Blanket B.C. Society hopes to collect 10,000 blankets during its fifth annual Drive on the Line. Between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on those days, volunteers will be accepting donations at Waterfront, Vancouver City Centre, Yaletown-Roundhouse, Broadway-City Hall, Oakridge-41st Avenue, Bridgeport, Landsdowne, and Richmond-Brighouse stations.

Blanket B.C. is also asking for donations of mittens, socks, scarves, and toques. Collected items will go to shelter programs and other organizations that help people living in poverty in Metro Vancouver, in the Fraser Valley, and on Vancouver Island.

The non-profit group, founded by Gregory Ould, is looking for volunteers to serve as "blanketeers" for the two-day drive. According to a news release, last year's Drive on the Line gathered 6,200 blankets and over 1,000 pieces of clothing.

This is such a wonderful initiative. I take the Canada Line every day, and I will bring a few blankets and socks for this great cause!
