Would this sandwich convince you to vote on October 19?

Sadly, voter turnout in the 2011 federal election was a dismal 61.1 percent, up from 58.8 percent in 2008.

So we can't really expect Elections Canada's marketing efforts aimed at getting you and me to the polls on election day to have much more of an effect this time around.

But has anyone told the electoral agency that all it needs to do is offer a free sandwich (just not from Subway) for a completed ballot?

The candidates could even help by nominating what kinds of sandwiches to serve. Hell, maybe they should have to make them.

(Tip: we hear millennials like sandwiches with official-looking labels describing them as "artisanal".)

While it's unlikely that Elections Canada will see the lobster roll in time for the October 19 federal vote, a local sandwichphile is taking matters into his own hams.

Vancouver artist and photographer Byron Dauncey is behind Vote. Why? Because I Will Make You a Sandwich. Launching this weekend, the project aims to increase voter participation by appealing to our love of food stuffed between slices of bread.

The idea: "Reach out to your friends who never vote, and offer to make them a sandwich if they do."

Dauncey is encouraging citizens to share their fave sandwich recipes on social media using the hashtags #IWMYAS and #iwillmakeyouasandwich.

Over to you, folks: what kind of sandwich will be most effective at increasing apathetic Canadians' appetite for voting?
